Brief Abstract: It is well accepted that there are different forms of memory and that these arise from different contexts. One example is the distinction between declarative and implicit memory (e.g., Squire), with the former arising in instrumental choice contexts while the latter may be established in simple Palovian conditioning contexts. I will argue that even different patterns of rewards in instrument choice contacts will further determine additional memory storage differences and that these differences are neurochemically different (cholinergic versus GABA-ergic, perhaps). The fact of this neurochemical difference can guide us in choosing the rewarding methods for trying to teach special populations (aged persons, Krosakoff patients, mentally retarded). Examples will be given.
