报告题目:Facilitation without inhibition: A study of listening comprehension in L2报告摘要:
When native speakers of English were asked to perform a word recognition task on words that were highly predictable, less predictable, or incongruent in a sentence context, they usually performed the task significantly faster on the predictable words than on less predictable words, and faster on less predictable but possible words than on incongruent words (Liu et al., 1997). In the present study, we found that nonnative speakers showed a context effect only on highly predictable words. No difference was found between the second and third conditions. The results from a number of experiments suggested that this nonnative pattern was not due to input presentation rates or the use of a particular task. Two alternative explanations were outlined and tested in the last experiment, the findings of which suggested that L2 speakers seemed to have difficulty in suppressing highly predictable information that was not part of the input. The findings of the present study call for further research into the reasons for such difficulty.
