Talk Title:Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit (ITK) & Open Source  Economics

Abstract:Insight Segmentation  and Registration Toolkit (ITK) has been one of the most worldwide impactful open  source projects in the medical image analysis field. The upcoming next  generation of ITK (version 4.0) has gone through major modularization for future  growth and has been equipped with state-of-the-art registration and segmentation  algorithms. As an active ITK developer, Dr. Liu is going to share her ITK  experience by giving a tutorial on ITKv4. She will also introduce the rising  open source economics as a R&D Engineer at Kitware Inc., a company makes a  living on open source software development, which you might find interesting  even if you are not an ITK user or developer.

Speaker’s Bio:Xiaoxiao  Liu received her B.E. in Computer Science and M.E. in Pattern Recognition and  Intelligent Systems from Hua Zhong University of Science  and Technology in 2003 and 2005, respectively.  She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the  University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in  2010.During her Ph.D study  at computer science department of UNC-CH, Dr. Liu was a member of MIDAG (Medical  Image Display and Analysis Group), working as a research assistant developing  algorithms for image-guided radiation procedures for cancer treatments using CT  images. Her doctoral dissertation proposed a novel shape-correlated statistical  modeling methodology for estimating respiratory motion during radiation  treatment to improve therapeutic ratio of lung cancer. Dr. Liu joinedKitware Inc. in  September 2010.  Since then she has been very active in developing Insight Segmentation and  Registration Toolkit (ITK), the leading-edge open source software  package in image analysis.
