Computational Methods for Brain Oscillations(1/2)
Abstract: Brain scientists suggest that the brain oscillations play a wide range of functions in both human and animal cognition. Such as, the interaction between the theta and the gamma rhythms plays an important role in cognition. Particularly, intracranial electroencephalographic (iEEG) recordings can provide more evidences for generation and function of brain oscillations. Thus, analysis of neuronal oscillations becomes a core in the cognitive science and neuroscience. Many computational methods have been proposed to analyze brain oscillations. These methods can be classified as linear and nonlinear methods or one, two and multiple dimensions EEG analysis methods. In this talk, the methods for brain oscillation will be reviewed, from linear methods to nonlinear methods and from one channel to multiple channels. The following methods will be addressed: the decomposition of brain oscillations; nonlinear analysis of brain oscillation; cross-frequency analysis of brain oscillation; synchronization methods of brain oscillations. Finally, in our laboratory some applications of brain oscillation analysis, including epileptic seizures, sleep and anesthesia will be shown as well.
