题目: From values to actions: the neural basis of economic choice

摘要:Economic decision-making is thought to entail a series of mental processes. Multiple determinants on which each option can vary are integrated into a subjective value. The decision is then made by comparing values. An outstanding question is whether, or under which circumstances, this comparison takes place in an abstract representation (space of goods) or in a motor representation (space of actions). Importantly, even good-based decisions typically lead to an action plan. In other words, the choice outcome must undergo a good-to-action transformation. In a series of experiments I recorded from several regions of the primate frontal lobe using experimental manipulations that dissociated between valuation, choice and action planning. The results show that the orbitofrontal cortex and lateral prefrontal cortex are involved in different aspects of choice and choice-guided behavior.
